The Aqueduct racino is one of the most successful gaming operations in the nation. As you are well aware, our success has turned NYRA into a success as well. By state law, the VLT operators are required a percentage of its net win to NYRA. Since opening in October 2011, Aqueduct has provided over $110 million in racing support payments, almost 25% of this total goes to support NYRA's operational funding needs and another 25% goes to provide much needed capital to improve NYRA facilities. The remainder goes to support purses and breeding, both of which support agri-business throughout the state. Subsequent racing support payments are expected to increase in the coming years as revenues at Resorts World rise. By your own calculations, NYRA generated $25 million in profits in 2012 and will generate at least $15 million in 2013. Much to our dismay, many of the employees who have kept your organization running on a daily basis continue to make poverty level wages. It is absolutely absurd that an organization, which receives over millions a year in taxpayer funds in order to turn a $25 million "profit" refuses to negotiate fair contracts with its workers. In comparison, racino employees enjoy fair wages and benefits. As the incoming Chief Executive Officer, you have a responsibility to change this unfortunate pattern of behavior. NYRA should immediately negotiate contracts with its employees that provide middle class wages, {WD036183.1 } Christopher Kay June 26, 2013 Page 2 appropriate benefits and retirement security as just and fair compensation for their year's hard work.
