STATE or FLORIDA Capital Circle Office Center 2540 Shumard Oak Boulevard Tallahassee, FL 32399-0850 (850) 413-6046 RONALD A. Balsa CHAIRMAN ummiaaintt May 28, 2013 I-lonorable Dwight Dudley Representative, District 68 3637 4th Street North, Suite 300 St. Petersburg, FL 33704 Dear Representative Dudley: Thank you for your letter of May 20 requesting an "evenhanded study of the nuclear power plant in Levy County." As you may be aware, Section 366.93, F.S., requires the Commission's determination of reasonable and prudent costs of nuclear projects eligible for advanced cost recovery. It is an annual review involving months of discovery and thousands of pages of testimony, culminating in several days of hearings, after which the Commission renders a decision in the public interest. At all times, and in all its work, the Commission strives to render sound decisions based on facts, in a fair and balanced manner. I can assure you that, along with my fellow Commissioners, we take our mission very seriously and thoroughly review all pertinent information before making decisions that are in the public's best interest. Recognizing the Legislature's recent consideration of Section 366.93, F.S., the Commission will continue to keep Florida's energy supply safe and reliable, while following the law as established. Since we cannot reliably predict our future energy demands and sources, I believe you would agree that a diversified energy supply is in the best interest of all Floridians. To that end, you may find our annual 10 Year Site Plan report helpful in considering decisions on Florida's energy needs. Thank you for sharing your concerns with me, and I hope this information is helpful to you. (Sincere- Ronald A. Bris? Chairman RAB/css cc: Commissioner Eduardo E.
