A N D R E W S CH E ER , C .P . , D É P U T É LEADER OF THE OFFICIAL OPPOSITION / CHEF DE L’OPPOSITION OFFICIELLE August 1st, 2019 Premier Blaine Higgs Chancery Place P. O. Box 6000 Fredericton, NB E3B 5H1 Dear Premier Higgs, I am writing to personally let you know that, should I become Prime Minister later this year, my government will maintain and increase the Canada Health Transfer (CHT) and the Canada Social Transfer (CST). Everyday, millions of Canadians rely on the public health care system. Whether it’s the birth of a child, caring for aging parents, a regular checkup, or a life-saving treatment, all Canadians have a story. Similarly, Canadians also count on education, social assistance, early learning and childcare, and other programs the CST supports to make a positive difference in their lives. Under my leadership, both the CHT and the CST will continue to increase by at least 3% every year. Canadians will be able to count on stable and predictable funding from the federal government. Stable federal funding is important to ensure a quality public health care system in your province. As the election nears, I anticipate my political opponents will misrepresent my position on health care funding. I want you to have my word in writing that I will maintain and increase that funding. Sincerely, The Hon. Andrew Scheer, P.C., M.P. Leader of the Official Opposition 443-A WEST BLOCK / ÉDIFICE DE L’OUEST OTTAWA, CANADA K1A 0A6
