CONSOLIDATION UPDATE: JUNE 25, 2003 THE CITY OF WINNIPEG EXOTIC ANIMAL BY-LAW NO. 3389/83 A By-law of THE CITY OF WINNIPEG respecting the keeping or harbouring of certain animals. WHEREAS The City of Winnipeg has the authority to pass by-laws respecting the keeping or harbouring of animals or birds: amended 8162/2002 NOW THEREFORE THE CITY OF WINNIPEG, in Council assembled, enacts as follows: 1. Except as may be specifically permitted under The Wildlife Act or the regulations under that Act, no person, firm or corporation shall keep or harbour any of the following animals within The City of Winnipeg: amended 6595/95 (1) (2) All venomous reptiles; The following species of snakes and lizards, and all their known races: African Python Indian Python Blood or Short-tailed Python Reticulated Python Timor Python Diamond or Carpet Amethystine Phyton Olive Python Brown Python D'Alberts or Whitelipped Python Boa Constrictor Madagascar Boa Cuban Boa Anaconda Python sebae Python molurus Python curtus Python reticulatus Python timorensis Morelia argus Python Liasis amethystinus Liasis olivaceous Liasis fuscus Liasis albertisii Boa constrictor Acrantophis madagascariensis Epicrates angulifer Eunectes murinus By-law No. 3389/83 2 Yellow Anaconda Salvadoris Monitor Nile Monitor Pacific Monitor Rough-necked Monitor Water or 2 - Banded Monitor Giant Monitor Bengal or Indian Monitor Lace Monitor Cape Monitor (3) (4) (5) (6) All members of the order Crocodilia; All non-human Primates; Eunectes notaeus Varanus salvadorii Varanus niloticus Varanus indicus Varanus rudicollis Varanus salvator Varanus Varanus Varanus Varanus giganteus bengalensis varius exanthematicus albigularis All members of order Carnivora excepting domestic dogs (Canis familiaris), domestic cats (Felis catus) and ferrets. horses, cattle, hogs, goats, sheep, poultry or bees except where specifically permitted by the applicable zoning by-law, and subject to section 2 of this By-law. added 3678/84 2. The Manitoba Museum. amended 116/2003 The University of Manitoba. The University of Winnipeg. The Health Sciences Centre. Any school to which The Public School Act applies. 3. Subsections (2), (3) or (4) of section 1 shall not apply to any person, firm or corporation who at the time of this By-law coming into force and effect is keeping or harbouring any of the animals set forth in said subsections. The Chief Operating Officer of the Animal Services Agency Division and his/her delegates may conduct inspections and take steps to administer and enforce this by-law or remedy a 1 contravention of this by-law in accordance with The City of Winnipeg Charter and, for those purposes, have the powers of a "designated employee" under The City of Winnipeg Charter. amended 8162/2002 5. 6. (1) (2) repealed 8162/2002 Subject to subsection (2), this By-law shall come into force and effect on the date of passing hereof. Subsections (1) and (5) of Section 1 shall not apply to any person, firm or corporation who at the time of this By-law coming into force and effect is keeping or harbouring any of the animals set forth in said subsections until 30 days have elapsed from the coming into force and effect of this By-law. 7.
