Out of an abundance of caution the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) Public Health program recommends that your child have a TB assessment. In spite of this potential exposure, the risk of TB infection to your child is very low. TB is an infection that is passed from person to person through the air. It is usually not very contagious. People need to spend a long period of time close to a person with infectious TB disease to become infected. People living in the same household are most likely to be infected. It is rare for it to spread at school or work. Public Health Nurses specializing in TB will be at the child care centre to assess children on February 14 and February 16, 2017. Each assessment will include questions regarding your child’s health, a tuberculin skin test (TST or Mantoux) and a referral for a chest X-ray. Please call Colleen Pittet, Public Health Nurse, at 204-940-2277 to book an appointment for your child. Colleen can be reached between 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. When you call to book an appointment, you will be asked to make two appointments. The first appointment will be on February 14 for approximately 30 minutes and is to administer the TST. A parent/guardian is required to be with your child at the first appointment. Parents/guardians may also attend the second appointment, February 16, to learn the TST results. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Colleen Pittet, Public Health Nurse. Additional information on TB is listed on the fact sheet included with this letter. Thank you for your attention and assistance.
