2017-01-23 TO: Dr. John Haggie Minister of Health & Community Services FROM: Raymond Norman, Chair Labrador-Grenfell Regional Health Board Authority RE: Recent Announcements in Labrador-Grenfell Region Within the past two weeks, and as late as this afternoon, there have been three funding announcements made by Minister Christopher Mitchelmore in the LabradorGrenfell Region, of which I am the Board Chair. I received no notification or invitation from Minister Mitchelmore or his office to attend either of these announcements. This was despite the fact that mayors, town councillors, etc. were informed and attended, and one announcement was even in my home town. I view this as ‘cheap politics’ by Minister Mitchelmore and certainly makes your department’s and your government’s motives appear to be questionable. After devoting years of my life volunteering with the Health Authority in this area, and endeavouring to do what I felt was best for this area and region, through both good times and bad; I can no longer function or continue as Chair of LabradorGrenfell Regional Health with this kind of treatment and disregard from an elected representative of the people. Too much personal sacrifice is required as a volunteer to be treated in such a manner. There is much work left to be done in health care, and I will continue to be a strong advocate for the health care needs of the Great Northern Peninsula and for the Labrador Grenfell Health Authority. I had hoped to end my volunteer term on a more positive note; however, I find it impossible to continue under these circumstances and am tendering my resignation effective immediately. ____________________________________ Ray Norman c.c.
