Secret Service's Designation of Security Perimeters. You also have expressed the concern that, when the Secret Service designates a security perimeter for the NATO Summit meetings at McCormick Place, that perimeter could affect the parade ending point at Indiana Avenue and 23rd Street sought by and approved by CDOT. You have requested that the Mayor agree to urge the Secret Service to avoid such a result. The City must decline this request. Such security perimeters are established by the Secret Service, whose responsibility it is to protect the President of the United States and other heads of state, Without any input from the City and based solely on security considerations. Accordingly, such perimeters are notsomething 30 NORTH LASALLE STREET, SUITE 1100, CHICAGO, ILLINOIS 60602 as to which the City could or would seek to influence the Secret Service. However, it is the City's desire and intent to get the destination point it seeks, or as close thereto as the Secret Service security perimeter will allow.
