Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0A2 May 5, 2016 Dear Chief Shisheesh: Thank you very much for your invitation to meet regarding the crisis in Attawapiskat. I am deeply concerned with the ongoing situation in your community, and with the urgency and gravity of this situation in mind, I am unhesitatingly willing to accept your offer to meet. As you know, following the visit of Minister Carolyn Bennett and Member of Parliament Charlie Angus to Attawapiskat on April 18th, I committed to meeting with youth from the communities of Mushkegowuk Tribal Council and Nishnawbe Aski Nation to engage in a dialogue with elected of?cials about the challenges they face in their communities. MinisterJane Philpott will also visit the community shortly. As the Minister of Youth and Prime Minister, I am agonized to see the number of suicide attempts by young people in Attawapiskat, and I wish to express my sincere support for the families and community members who are affected by this tragic situation. The strength and perseverance shown by your community is truly admirable, and I stand with all of you as we work together to forge a durable solution for the youth in Attawapiskat and those around the country who face a similar struggle. My of?ce will very shortly be in contact with you in order to arrange a meeting in Ottawa at a mutually convenient time. Thank you once again for the offer to meet, and please know that my thoughts remain with the youth and families in Attawapiskat who continue to endure the unimaginable difficulty of these horrific circumstances. Indeed, I look forward to visiting Attawapiskat in the near future. Sincerely, Chief Bruce Shisheesh Attawapiskat First Nation P.O. Box 238 Attawapiskat, Ontario POL 1A0
