Ms. Melissa Mancini 250 Front Street West Toronto, Ontario M5?v? 1E6 Dear Ms. Mancini: Re: Your Request for Access to Information Under Part 2 of The Freedom of and Protection of Privacy Act; Ogr File No. 2016 - 003 On January 29, 2016, Manitoba Education and Advanced Learning (EAL) received your request for access to the following information: We would like to request statistics on the number of disciplinary decisions against all teachers in the province over the last ten years (2005-2015). We would request a breakdown of the type of infraction investigated (for example, incompetence, sexual, verbal or physical misconduct, etc) and the outcome of the investigation. Please include the name of the school, city and teacher. if possible, we would like to have this information in CSV or excel fonnat. 2) We would like to request summaries of all disCiplinary decisions against teachers in the province since 2005. I am pleased to inform you that your request for access to these records is partially granted. Please note that the below cases relate to seventeen teachers. Three of these cases were brought before the Certi?cate Review Committee (CRC), which is responsible for issuing a non- binding recommendation to the Minister of EAL concerning a teacher's continuing ability to retain a teaching certi?cate. The other cases were not reviewed by the CRC as those teachers voluntarily surrendered their teaching certificates. It should also be noted that school divisions may also discipline teachers, which can result in an employment consequence; however this information does not exist within EAL. The Minister suspends the certificate indefinitely and advises them that it will remain indefinitely suspended. They have the option of appearing before the CRC after which the Minister would make a final decision on their certification status. - ?Suspended? means the Minister has referred the matter to the CRC, the committee has made a recommendation to the Minister, and the Minster has suspended the certificate for a specific period or with specific counselling such as anger management, addictions, etc. Access to other records is refused however, as we do not disclose identifying information such as teacher name, school, or city nor recommendations from the CRC to the Minister.
