Sent: Wednesday, September 29, 2010 4:39 PM Subject: Reverse Roy: The Georgia lawsuit against Obamacare For immediate release Sept. 29, 2010 Reverse Roy: Lawsuit against Obamacare Today at a Commerce Club forum, Democrat Roy Barnes said that Obamacare's individual mandate was constitutional, arguing that if the government can make you buy car insurance, it can make you buy health care. Barnes said the state's lawsuit against the individual mandate would lose in court. Yet, Barnes said in a Sept. 6 Associated Press report that he would continue the state's lawsuit against Obamacare's mandates. So why would Barnes continue a lawsuit if he disagrees with the state's argument? Republican nominee for attorney general Sam Olens says he'll dedicate $100,000 to fighting Obamacare in court. Does Roy Barnes support that position? Interestingly, Barnes' fellow Democrat, attorney general nominee Ken Hodges, blasted the state's efforts to protect Georgians from unconstitutional mandates. "It is a waste of taxpayer money to pursue redundant litigation, especially at a time when the state is furloughing law enforcement officers and shutting down crime labs," Hodges said in a statement released by his campaign to Morris News Service. Does Barnes disagree with Ken Hodges? "Nathan Deal has fought against the excesses of Obamacare from the beginning," said Deal spokesman Brian Robinson. "As the Republican leader of health care subcommittee, Nathan was the first Republican leader to call the individual mandate unconstitutional. He worked for compromises that would create high-risk pools and low-risk pools and insure most Americans without a government takeover of health care. As governor, he'll work with Sam Olens to fight for Georgians' constitutional rights by fighting Obamacare's individual mandate in court. "Roy Barnes donated beyond the legal limit to Barack Obama and had to get a refund. Before that, he was the Georgia leader for John Edwards' campaign when Edwards was calling for an even more expensive health care boondoggle. Was Roy Barnes the only person in the United States who didn't know that President Obama was campaigning on a government takeover of health care?"
