Click here Deal announces "Real Responsibility" to manage vital resources Nathan Deal, Republican nominee for governor of Georgia, today released his plan for responsible management of the state's vital natural resources. "Real Responsibility" outlines the candidate's plans to develop additional water reservoirs, promote alternative fuels, reduce solid waste by promoting recycling and encourage sustainable construction through LEED certification. "Real Responsibility" represents the third element of Deal's five-point plan to get Georgians back to work and to improve the quality of life in our state. "We must be good stewards of the limited resources that are here for our use," said Deal. "We remain one of the fastest-growing states and the demands for water, energy and waste disposal will grow with our state. Being prepared for the future begins now and requires us to act responsibly to provide resources now while protect them for future generations of Georgians." The plan recognizes our state's water supply is not infinite and calls for responsible measures to be taken to ensure the best use of our limited resources. In conjunction with strong conservation efforts to maximize the usage of existing water infrastructure, additional storage capacity is essential in addressing our long-term needs as a growing state. The global spotlight is currently focused on development of alternative fuel options, and as Georgians, we have a unique opportunity to capitalize on this mission. Academic and research institutions across our state are working to promote Georgia as a leader in biomass energy technology, and as governor, Nathan Deal will foster an environment for continued efforts that maximize the assets we have at hand to become a supplier of clean energy throughout the Southeast. Deal also calls for reducing landfill waste by promoting new waste reduction methods. The plan also encourages use of recycled construction products with the ability to attain credits for sustainable building practices through the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)(R) certification program. The campaign has also announced that it will soon release plans for transportation and for making state government more efficient.
