MEMORANDUM FROM: Brett 5. Dungan TO: Bayou La Batre City Council Council Member Kimberlyn Barbour Council Member lda Mae Coleman Councilman Member Austin Collier Council Member and Council President Annette Johnson Council Member George Ramirez CONCERNING: Resignation as Mayor of the City of Bayou La Batre DATE: Monday, July 27, 2015 It has been a great personal privilege to represent the citizens of Bayou La Batre as their Mayor for the past 23 months. Bayou La Batre is a unique City that has been blessed with a rich heritage and great resources. The future holds tremendous promise for our City and its unique blend of citizens. Anyone would consider it a privilege to participate in the positive changes that appear to be just over the horizon. However, I have been forced to face the reality that, in the near future, personal issues related to my family will demand much more of my time and energy than I anticipated. You are aware that Linda and I made an unscheduled trip to Colorado on Saturday, July 18 to check on the health of my father who is ninety years old and suffers from cardio- pulmonary issues. This, of course, is in addition to Linda?s own health issues. We are currently in Colorado and a return date is impossible to anticipate. lam not certain what the next few weeks and months will bring but it has become obvious in the past few days that I will need to spend more time with my family than previously anticipated. In retrospect, I probably should have been much more attentive to my family?s needs during the past two years. There is no question but that I owe them the same level of commitment and unselfish love that they have given me for so many years. With full realization that, at this time, I cannot provide the citizens of Bayou La Batre with the energy and leadership they deserve and simultaneously attend to my family's needs, I am tendering my resignation as Mayor of Bayou La Batre effective at 5:00 PM. today, Monday, July 27, 2015. Linda and have been part of the Bayou La Batre community for over forty years. We raised our children here and we grew to deeply appreciate the heritage, the culture and the people of the bayou. We wish the community the very best going forward and we ask for your continued thoughts and prayers as we face the future. By copy of this correspondence, I am advising Attorney Michael Hickman to take appropriate measures to drop the current lawsuit filed by me against four members of the Council. It is my de 're that the City be able to move forward without this distraction. W.
