Subject: City Council Member Committee appointments, 2015-17 term

 

I have spent the past few weeks in discussions with council members about your interests and
goals for the upcoming term. I have enjoyed getting to knew our six new council members and I
can?t wait for us to get back to work next month.

As with past committee assignment processes, I did my best to ensure diverse racial and gender
representation on each of our committees. It is also important that each of you be given a chance
to develop your leadership skills and broaden your knowledge on key issues.

In addition to these assignments, I have asked Council member Tif?nni A. Young to study whether
to revive our Youth Commission or a comparable body to better incorporate our youngest
constituents in our policymaking.

In the coming weeks, I will determine a replacement for former Mayor Pro Tem Tennell Atkins
on the Police and Fire Pension Board.

I look forward to working with each of you.
