Excellency.

Following Prime Minister Stephen Harper's historic apology made to former students.
their families. and communities. the Truth and Reconciliation Commission was
established in 2008 by the Government of Canada and the other parties to the Indian
Residential Schools Settlement Agreement.

On June 2, 2015. the Commission issued an Executive Summary of its final report.
including its key findings and its 04 recommendations. This Executive Summary can be
found on the Commission?s website at: 

 

Some recommendations relate to the Churches which operated residential schools in
Canada. i wish to bring these recommendations to the attention of the Hoiy See.

The Government of Canada will be studying and considering the Commission's
recommendations carefully. while we await the ?nal report from the Commission. which
is expected to be issued by the end of this calendar year.
