Dear Ms. MacCleery:

This is in response to your request of October 22, 2014, requesting the Flavor and Extract Manufacturers
Association (FEMA). GRAS determinations 1960 to present. Your request was forwarded to the Office of
Food Additive Safety in the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition.

We have searched our files and find no responsive information. From the 19605 through the late
19805. under a contract with FDA, FEMA prepared Scientific Literature Reviews (SLRs). The official
repository for the SLRs is the National Technical Information Service use the
search terms "Flavor and Extract," "food," to yield a reasonable number of search results.
You will need to create a log-in in order to view these documents. In the mid 19903, FEMA provided
safety and technical information to the Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) for
their evaluation. FDA scientists participate in the JECFA evaluations. The safety and technical information
are publically available on the WHO website 
select the appropriate functional class, such as flavouring agent, etc. to bring up
lists of substances, each with a hyperlink to the supporting data).

FDA has taken this approach to facilitate the process of responding to you. If you dispute FDA's
preliminary determination and would like FDA to reconsider this determination. please let us know in
